About

Through interactive and participatory installations, the artist duo Lagueux + L’Ecuyer explores public spaces to meet people where they are, promoting the repurposing of common, everyday, and recycled materials. Both graduated with a bachelor’s degree in arts and design from the Université du Québec en Outaouais in 1998 and began their practice in the AXENÉO7 and DAÏMÕN artist centers in the region. Returning to Lanaudière in 2003, their collaborative approach took shape in 2009 with the work in progress Conversations sur l’oreiller, a video installation in which people are invited to lie down in a bed and experience a game that tests their ability to collaborate with another person.

They have completed several projects combining visual and digital arts, co-creation, and mediation, and have presented their work at various festivals (Les HTMlles, Art souterrain, Montréal Joue, Diapason), artist-run centers, and public spaces in Quebec (Ada X, 3e impérial, Folie Culture, Musée d’art de Joliette, Verticale (VCA)), libraries and parks (Maison de la culture de Rivière-des-Prairies, cities of Terrebonne, Joliette, Mascouche, Repentigny and Laval, Cégep de Lanaudière), in addition to carrying out public art projects through the arts integration in architecture program and competitions (Le Labyrinthe recyclé with Canadian Heritage in 2015, Le banc de Marie-Louise and L’Enjambée with the City of Mascouche in 2023-24, Espèce en voie d’apparition dans le souffle du zéphyr with the Super Aqua Club). Their work has been supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Based in Terrebonne, they are involved in local cultural development with the organizations Art Partage and Rond-Point and are working to establish fruitful networks to promote access to contemporary and digital arts.
