Espèce en voie d’apparition (Emerging Species)

During the summer of 2023, plastic creatures and their digital counterparts appeared in Charles-De Gaulle Park, Île-Lebel Park in Repentigny, and Ruisseau de Feu Conservation Park in Terrebonne. After touring the parks of Terrebonne and Mascouche with Transhumance, artists Stéphanie Lagueux and Jonathan L’Ecuyer invited the public to discover an Espèce en voie d’apparition (Emerging Species), in collaboration with L’Espace culturel de Repentigny.

Espèce en voie d’apparition (Emerging Species) is a project that involves integrating, documenting, and caring for a series of sculptures across the region. It is like a herd that is moved around to encounter people and landscapes. The sculptures were designed as part of research into recycling and reuse in art, specifically focusing on the material and shape of plastic bottles.

Guided tour: Emerging species and their natural habitat

Saturday, September 16, 2023, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
With Paule Makrous, art historian and arborist

The artists invited the public to a guided tour starting at the Ruisseau de Feu conservation park in Terrebonne, where the Espèce en voie d’apparition project first emerged. Participants were able to discover the creatures and their habitat, the trees and the surrounding flora with the artists and their collaborator Paule Makrous, art historian and arborist.

The augmented reality integrations were accessible via the Artivive app on a phone or tablet. The tour continued in Repentigny in Île-Lebel and Charles-De Gaulle parks, where refreshments and snacks were served.

Espèce en voie d’apparition au Lumifest

Friday, August 18, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The artists invited visitors to create their own models and lighting for mini plastic creatures, replicas of those installed in Charles-De Gaulle Park. At dusk, digital creatures were projected onto the trees with the help of Art Partage.
